How Morning Local is put together.

What Morning Local is
Morning Local is an independent daily email for New Zealand cities, starting with Auckland. Each edition gathers the local, national and world news we think our readers need, alongside the weather, what's on, a community block and a puzzle. We are an editorial publication, not a wire service: what we publish is written by us, in our own words, from publicly available reporting.
How the news summaries are written
Every news item in Morning Local is an original summary. We do not copy, excerpt or closely paraphrase the articles we draw on. The process is the same every morning: we follow the public feeds of the outlets covering each city, choose the stories that matter to our readers, write a fresh headline and a short plain-English summary of the facts, and name and link the original report so you can read the whole thing.
Our aim is to tell you what is happening in your city and send you to the journalists who reported it. We see ourselves as a front door to local journalism, not a replacement for it.
Writing process and use of AI
Morning Local is produced with human editorial judgement and modern writing tools, including AI-assisted drafting. Stories are selected and checked against our guidelines by a person; the tools help keep the tone and length consistent across editions. A human is in the loop on every edition. If something reads oddly or gets a fact wrong, tell us at nathan@morninglocal.co.nz and we will fix it.
Attribution and linking
Each news story names its source and links to the original article. The links carry a rel="nofollow" attribute, which tells search engines we are attributing, not trading on the source's content.
Where the news comes from
We read the public RSS feeds published by New Zealand news organisations — national outlets and the local newsrooms covering each city — plus council, tourism, venue and community listings for events and what's-on content. We have no private arrangements with any publisher.
Independence and sponsorship
Morning Local is editorially independent. Advertising and sponsorship never influence which stories we cover or how we write them, and anything sponsored is labelled as such in the edition. Our advertising policy sets out what we accept and what we decline.
Affiliate links
Morning Local does not currently use affiliate links. If that changes, this page will say where they appear and how they are marked, and no commission will ever decide what we recommend.
Accuracy and corrections
We try hard to be accurate and we correct mistakes promptly. If you spot an error in any edition, email nathan@morninglocal.co.nz with the date and the item, and we will put it right in the next edition.
Content disputes
If you are a publisher or creator and believe Morning Local has used your work in a way that infringes your rights, write to nathan@morninglocal.co.nz with the specific item. We review every good-faith request promptly and will amend or remove content where that is the right outcome.
